My Favorite Medieval City: Siena

I know what you’re thinking: YOWZA. The facade on this church is stunning. As someone who spend so much time in Florence, seeing the front of this church reminded me of the Duomo, but is stunningly different. I suspect the stone may be from the same area of the country, and much of the color scheme is the same. Gorgeous!

Wherever you go in Italy, there will be one of these plump Italian-chef sculptures to advertise pizza parlors. I have grown very fond of them. They also distinctly remind me of garden gnomes.

Amazing shops in Siena. This shop had home-made candle sculptures that were incredible!

I will get one of these someday.

I ate dinner at this AMAZING restaurant, several stories under the city. The stone and atmosphere was truly unique.

Lennon Glasses, Elephants and Puppy Love

Photobucket

These are my mom’s old green glasses, which look fairly strange, but they seem to fit into the super-hipster culture. After seeing that iconic image of John Lennon in glasses this shape, I have never bothered to find out the proper name.

About a week ago, we picked up a baby cockapoo. His name is Miles (or Mr. Davis for when he’s been really bad), and he’s about the sweetest thing you’ll ever meet. He enjoys short walks around the yard, long naps in sunny spots, and chewing…on just about anything.

I found this wonderful indonesian elephant jacket at Battery St Jeans a few months back. Kind of in love with it. The chunky necklace is from somewhere in Columbia.

One More Day of UK

Photobucket

Photobucket

I’ve been all around Europe, taken thousands of photos, and I’ve got one more day in London. You can expect too many photos coming your way. Plus, the time change will give me awkward hours when I’ll be awake, and everyone else will be sleeping.

As for London…

Stitches for Your Heart

I finally have mended my sewing machine! Thus, I am mending, and changing my clothes. I think my favorite is this flower dress. The yellow belt is a weaving I made earlier this summer.

This was once a white onesie, that I died and fitted. I also took off the feet and added a hood!

I mended sarong. Fits a little strangely, but I love the fabric.

I fitted this dress, but I feel like it need some more editing. Any suggestions?

I love this vintage shirt! So beautiful, and now it actually looks nice on a person.

Antiques, Sunset, and a Tiger Head

When my grama the most stunning woman in any room, she married my grandfather, a race car driver named Harry Blanchard. As a wedding gift, her great aunt sent her a tiger skin and head! She lived in India and, since it was legal to kill tigers at the time, shot quite a few tigers in her day. The skin is pretty roughed up, but the face is still in tact and brutally gorgeous. As a child it used to scare me like nothing else, but these days I’m pretty much in love with it.

That is one thing I’m dying to inherit.

My great great great grandfather (or something like that) once build a stone house in Vermont. When it was created it was actually used to host anti-prohibition parties, and has quite a history to it. We rent out the house during the summers, but every once in a while we will host a party and enjoy the place. I didn’t take pictures of the whole building, but you should get a feel for the beautiful place.

It’s been very hot here, and I’ve been listening to a lot of old classic R&B songs like “Ain’t No Mountain High” by Diana Ross.

So awesome and happy, it is hard to resist such wonderful sing-along songs for windy car rides. I’ve taken to wearing shorter dresses, and this is a vintage find of my mothers.

Battery Street Jeans, a thrift store in Burlington, VT is my all-time favorite thrift store. Basically its this wonderful store where they play great music, everyone is wonderful, and new bizarre clothing is always moving through the store! I get a lot of my clothing from there, I’m sort of a consignment junkie. I have a lot of love for BSJ, and I suggest to you that if you are in Burlington, but must stop by and pick and something fantastically vintage!
